The BASC–3 Student Observation System (SOS) is a 15-minute observation procedure designed to enable the clinician to record and evaluate a student’s behavior in a classroom environment. The SOS may be used as an aid in diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring the effects of treatment.
Among the BASC-3 components, the SOS is unique in being the only structured assessment instrument that is used directly by the clinician. Because the SOS is a direct observation procedure, it is likely to be less vulnerable to the biases of a particular respondent than are rating scales. Therefore, the SOS, as additional source of data, complements the BASC-3 TRS, PRS and SRP.

The Item Entry tab in Q-global will contain three additional tabs nested within it: Part A, Part B, and Part C
On the BASC-3 SOS Record Form, Part B is administered before Part A.
For each 30-second interval, select the checkbox (✓) in the time column next to each category of behavior that occurred during that interval.
At the end of the observation period, mark the frequency of each behavior (Not Observed, Sometimes Observed, or Frequently Observed). If the behavior occurred, indicate if it was disruptive.
Note: For each behavior, NO, SO, or FO selection is required. If the Other field is blank, a selection is not required.
Provide the requested information in as much detail as possible about the teacher's interaction with the student.
