Entering KTEA-3 Scores

The KTEA3 is an individually administered measure of academic achievement for grades prekindergarten through 12, or ages 4 through 25. The test has two independent, parallel forms (A and B), covers a wide range of achievement and language domains, and provides error analysis capabilities.

The KTEA3 is designed to be attractive and engaging for examinees at every point in the age range. It provides norm-referenced and, through its error analysis systems, criterion-referenced assessment in the domains of reading, mathematics, written language, and oral language with 19 subtests and 14 composites. Error analysis and intervention statements are available for 10 KTEA3 subtests.

The KTEA-3 is manual entry only and has three tabs: Overview, Subtests, and Qualitative Observations.

Overview Tab

Error Analysis

Error Analysis data and teaching objectives and interventions are offered for 10 KTEA-3 subtests.

The KTEA-3 Record Form shows the error categories that correspond to each item for the Phonological Processing, Math Concepts & Applications, Reading Comprehension, Written Expression, Listening Comprehension, and Oral Expression subtests.

For the Letter & Word Recognition, Math Computation, Nonsense Word Decoding, and Spelling subtests, see the KTEA-3 QG Digital Handscoring Forms.pdf located in the Restricted folder of the Q-global Resource Library for details on the applicable error categories.

The Compute Error Analysis button is enabled when a raw score is entered for a subtest that has error analysis available. Clicking the Compute Error Analysis button calculates the age-based and grade-based standard scores based on the raw score(s) that have been entered. Scores will appear only for subtests that have error analysis available.

Review the age-based and grade-based subtest standard scores to help determine subtests for which to complete error analysis information. Subtests for which error analysis is recommended appear with a blue exclamation point icon next to the scores (collapsed mode) or next to the Error Analysis section heading within the subtest tile. Error analysis is recommended when the age-based and/or grade-based standard score for the subtest falls below a predefined threshold of 85.

Once error analysis scores are calculated (triggered by clicking the Compute Error Analysis button) expand the subtest tile to enter error analysis information. The information required varies by subtest. See the sections below for each specific subtest.

If any raw scores are modified, the calculated age-based and grade-based standard scores will need to be recalculated. You will see a warning message to let you know about this condition. If you need to update the raw score, click the Compute Error Analysis button again to recalculate the scores.

When error analysis information is completed for a subtest, it can be included in the Error Analysis section of the report, and teaching objectives and interventions specific to error categories can also be included. Select the applicable report configuration options to include this information on the KTEA-3 Standard Report.

Phonological Processing

Error Analysis for Phonological Processing is available at all grade levels. Enter the item score (0 or 1) for each item administered to identify specific errors and provide teaching objectives and interventions specific to the error categories in the Error Analysis section of the report. You are not allowed to skip items between the first and last items administered in each error category.

Note: Please ensure that the totals entered do not conflict with the total subtest raw score. Also verify that subtest discontinuation rules are followed.

Math Concepts & Applications

Error analysis for the Math Concepts & Applications subtest is available for examinees in grades PK through 12+. No items are initially listed in the Error Analysis section. Select the first and last item administered to display the applicable item set. All items are initially unchecked. Place a check next to incorrect items to identify specific errors and provide teaching objectives and interventions specific to the error categories in the Error Analysis section of the report.

If the student's highest item attempted falls in between two columns in the norms table, the lower item is used for normative comparisons. When this occurs, only items up to the lower item in the norms table are displayed. Additionally, only items applicable to the examinee’s grade are displayed.

Note: Please ensure that the total entered errors do not conflict with the total subtest raw score. Also verify that subtest discontinuation rules are followed.

Letter & Word Recognition

Error analysis for the Letter & Word Recognition subtest is available for examinees in all grade levels except PK. No items are initially listed in the Error Analysis section. Select the first and last item administered to display the applicable item set. An expandable section is displayed for each item in the item set. Expand the incorrect items and click one or more checkboxes to identify specific errors and provide teaching objectives and interventions specific to the error categories.
